Al Rakha wins $91.2mn construction contract for Aldar’s Alghadeer

Aldar Properties has announced the appointment of Al Rakha Contracting and General Transport as the contractor for its sustainable destination – Alghadeer, located between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Al Rakha will be the main contractor for Alghadeer’s Phase 2 infrastructure buildings and early works package, which relates to the first neighbourhood of the $2.7 billion development.
The contract is worth $91.2 million, and Al Rakha will be responsible for the construction of 707 maisonettes, townhouses and villas following site preparation work, a statement from Aldar Properties said. Located on the north-west section of development, Alghadeer will feature over 14,000 homes, commercial properties, cultural and institutional amenities and entertainment attractions to be built over the coming 15 years, it stated.
Commenting on the contract awarded, CEO Talal Al Dhiyebi said: “From its location at the centre of the UAE, Alghadeer offers residents a peaceful community with sustainable living initiatives within close proximity to both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. We have seen solid interest in the project which expands our successful destination-led strategy to new areas of the emirate.”
Primarily a residential community, total residential GFA is set to exceed 1.3 million sqm and will be complemented by office space, retail space, hospitality, education and community amenities. Aldar has focused on facilities like open spaces and recreational features, lakes, running and cycle tracks, a gym, camping and BBQ sites, and gardens and parks lit by solar powered lights.
The project is also expected to have a multi-use agricultural space called Harvest, an F&B outlet called The Hub, an educational area for training and workshops called The Studio, an area for farming gods and supplies called The Shed, a retail area for freshly grown produce called The Market and plots where people can grow their own produce called The Field.
Aldar has also sold other plots in the community which will feature a British curriculum school, a Lulu supermarket and a community clinic.
