Aldar awards $91m contract to Al Rakha for Alghadeer Phase 2
November 14, 2018 – UAE-based property developer Aldar Properties has awarded an AED335m ($91m) contract to Al Rakha Contracting and General Transport for the infrastructure buildings and early works package for the first neighbourhood in Phase Two of its AED10bn ($2.72bn) project Alghadeer, located near the border of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Alghadeer will offer easy access to the UAE’s arterial highways, and will be in close proximity to the Dubai Expo 2020 site, located in the Dubai South district, near Dubai World Central Airport.
The project has been designed for people who are keen on a healthy, sustainable and smart way of living, while enjoying convenient access to the city.
Under the terms of the contract, Al Rakha Contracting will build 707 maisonettes, townhouses and villas after the site preparation work.
Launched in April, the project is located in the northwest section of the masterplan, featuring more than 14,000 homes, commercial properties, cultural and institutional amenities and entertainment attractions, which will be built over the coming 15 years.
Aldar CEO Talal Al Dhiyebi said: “From its location at the centre of the UAE, Alghadeer offers residents a peaceful community with sustainable living initiatives within close proximity to both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
“We have seen solid interest in the project which expands our successful destination-led strategy to new areas of the emirate.”
The project will include: Harvest, a multi-use agricultural-led space featuring allotments; The Hubn – a F&B (food and beverages) outlet; The Studio – an educational area for training and workshops; The Shed – a dedicated area for purchasing farming tools and supplies; The Market – a retail area for freshly grown produce; and The Field – where people can rent plots and grow their own produce.
It will also include lakes, running and cycle tracks, gym, camping and BBQ sites, as well as gardens and parks lit by solar powered lights.
Since its launch, Aldar has sold two plots within Alghadeer, which will feature a British curriculum school and a LuLu supermarket and a community clinic.
