Aligned Energy breaks ground on second data centre in West Jordan, US

November 04, 2019 – US-based infrastructure technology company Aligned Energy has broken ground on a second Salt Lake Metro data centre in West Jordan, in Utah, US.

The second facility is being constructed as an expansion of the Salt Lake Metro data centre for the addition of a new anchor customer as well as to meet the demand for adaptable, scalable data centre infrastructure in the Western technology hub.

The existing centre has been built on 300,000ft² with a capacity of 34MW in West Jordan. The new facility will be built adjacent to the existing centre on 240,000ft² and will add 48MW of capacity.

Upon completion of the construction, the Aligned SLC campus will occupy 780,000ft² of space and offer 130MW of capacity in the Silicon Slopes.

Aligned Energy CEO Andrew Schaap said: “Aligned continues to set — and achieve — aggressive speed-to-market targets, most recently in Ashburn, and now in Salt Lake County with our latest greenfield deployment.

“Expected to complete in Q1 2020, our second West Jordan facility will provide adaptable, efficient and sustainable data center infrastructure to enable enhanced availability, performance and scale for customers’ growing cloud and application workloads in the region.”

The SLC data centre campus will comprise the company’s patented Delta Cube (Delta³) cooling technology, which allows customers to increase up to 50kW per rack without reconfiguring the existing infrastructure, disperse equipment, or require large-scale capex investments.

The company said that when Delta Cube is combined with Aligned’s patented CACTUS, the unit will deliver efficiency at any load, in any climate to support customers’ sustainability goals regardless of location.

West Jordan City Mayor Jim Riding said: “We are happy to see Aligned Energy’s expansion in West Jordan. The Company’s decision to further invest in our city shows confidence in West Jordan’s growing economy and workforce.

“We are proud to partner with this leading data center that will bring new job opportunities for citizens, allowing them to live and work in West Jordan.”
