Allison Transmission breaks ground on innovation facility in Indiana, US
June 17, 2019 – Allison Transmission, a manufacturer of propulsion solutions for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, has broken ground on new Innovation Centre in Indianapolis, Indiana, US.
The new centre, which is a part of company’s planned growth of core businesses, will allow Allison to develop advancements for alternative fuel and electric vehicles. It is expected to create more than 300 new jobs through 2020.
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb said: “The increased investment we’re celebrating today makes Allison, our state and our people well-positioned for future growth.”
Allison Transmission said it plans to invest more than $400m (£317.7m) in its business over the next few years.
As part of this effort, the firm plans to build a new Vehicle Environmental Test (VET) facility in Indianapolis by 2020, a new Innovation Centre and expand its core business.
The VET will comprise two environmental chambers designed to enable simulation of temperature extremes, altitude and on-road conditions to allow testing for regulatory compliance, on-board diagnostic development and performance improvements for vehicle optimization.
Scheduled to be commissioned in 2021, the Innovation Centre will feature expanded virtual and physical system simulation, as well as development and validation capabilities to support customers, partners and supplier relationships.
Allison said that the Innovation Centre also includes regulatory compliance simulation, and allows for broader collaboration on future technology and product initiatives.
The firm also plans to construct and equip the 95,000ft² facility next to its west side Indianapolis headquarters at the corner of 10th Street and Cossell Road.
Allison Transmission president and CEO David Graziosi said: “The Innovation Center will consolidate our product engineering groups and facilitate internal and external collaboration for technology and product co-development.
“The concepts being generated and simulated in this state-of-the-art facility will allow us to bring new technology and products to market more efficiently and faster that add value to our customers, partners and suppliers. All of this was made possible because of a great partnership with the state of Indiana, city of Indianapolis and town of Speedway.”
