Balfour Beatty unit completes phase 2 of student housing in US

August 21, 2018 – Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions and Dallas-based developer Wynne/Jackson have completed the second phase of a mixed-use development project to expand the housing options available to students at the University of Texas at Dallas, US.

The two-phase Northside development now provides more than 1,500 university students with a modern, amenity-rich living experience at the northern edge of the campus.

Under the second phase, 900 beds have been added in mid-rise apartment and townhome styles, featuring studio, one-, two-, three and four-bedroom floor plans, with new amenities, including a second resort-style pool with patio and lounge areas; tournament sand volleyball court; second indoor/outdoor fitness centre; individual study rooms on each floor; sky lounge amenity space; and more than 7,000ft² of additional retail space.

The first phase, completed in 2016, brought 600 beds with amenities and a parking garage, restaurants and pubs and a 7-Eleven to the 13-acre tract of land located north and west of the Synergy Park Boulevard and Floyd Road intersection, adjacent to the site of a future DART rail station.

Northside phase 2 development team includes Star America (lead equity partner) and a design/build team headed by Andres Construction comprising Architecture Demarest (lead design firm), TBG Partners (landscape architect) and Keaton Interiors (interior designer).

Balfour Beatty Communities will provide residential leasing and management services and Wynne/Jackson will provide leasing and management services for the retail components and asset management.

Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions president Bob Shepko said: “This is an exciting milestone for UTD and our development partners and it is truly gratifying to take in the remarkable transformation this area has undergone since we broke ground on the multiphase Northside project more than three years ago.

“Our teams have worked tirelessly over the past year to achieve an on-time delivery of Phase 2 and we’re thrilled to help the university achieve its goal of providing students with expanded options for high-quality, modern housing that is convenient to campus.”
