Big names land spots on £500m Midlands highways framework

Balfour

August 16, 2018 – Balfour Beatty and Morgan Sindall among framework winners

Four contractors have been selected to deliver major highways and civils work across the Midlands.

Balfour Beatty, Eurovia, Galliford Try and Morgan Sindall are now set to share a £500m work pipeline under the revamped Midlands Highway Alliance Medium Schemes Framework 3 (MSF3), which will cover  for the next four years.

According to the contract notice published to the Official Journal of the European Union schemes covered by the framework include highways improvements, maintenance and infrastructure works, public realm works, such as town centre enhancements, drainage improvements and canal works.

Earlier this year 20 contractors initially expressed an interest in bidding for the contract. Eight contractors were invited to tender with documents being returned at the end of April.

The MSF3 framework replaces the Midlands Highways Alliance’s MSF2 framework, which ran for four years to June 2018.

The new framework is expected to exceed the £200m of works delivered through the previous framework as regional investment in infrastructure is programmed to significantly increase.

Nineteen local authorities can currently use the framework, but with discussions under way between the Midlands Highway Alliance and the Midlands Service Improvement Group about the possibility of a merger between the two groups this could increase to 27.
