Bilfinger wins €100M contract for Texas methanol plant
Sep 27, 2016 – Bilfinger has secured a €100M contract for the construction of the Natgasoline methanol plant in Beaumont, Texas. The contract was awarded by Orascom Engineering & Construction USA, which will serve as the project’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.
Bilfinger’s scope of the work will include complete mechanical assembly, such as piping and steel construction. It will also include insulation, painting, scaffolding, corrosion protection, fire protection and turnover of complete mechanical systems.
About 1,900t of steel will be processed and over 65,000m of piping will be laid for the project, which will require over 34,000 welding seams.
The plant, expected to be the largest in the US market, will have a production capacity of 1.75M t of methanol annually.
Bilfinger CEO Tom Blades said: “Bilfinger has gained an excellent reputation in US industry with the quality and reliability of its engineering and services. This also applies to complex assembly projects. The major order gives us an important boost in a challenging competitive environment.”
The project will create about 700 construction jobs during its peak phase, including 70 specialist welders. The facility is expected to be operational in the second half of 2017.
