Boskalis, Van Oord to build new port site for Rotterdam offshore centre

July 14, 2017 – The Port of Rotterdam Authority has signed an agreement with PUMA (Projectorganisatie Uitbreiding Maasvlakte, Project Organisation Expansion Maasvlakte) for the construction of the site of Rotterdam Offshore Center Maasvlakte 2.

PUMA is a joint venture of the two Dutch hydraulic engineering firms Royal Boskalis Westminster NV and Van Oord NV for the construction of the first phase of Maasvlakte 2.

The centre will be located at Prinses Alexiahaven along Maasvlakte 2’s inland basin.

PUMA will officially start rainbowing on the site, with a planned surface area of 70 hectares on 1 August 2017.

About seven million cubic metres of sand required for this undertaking will be extracted from offshore sites and port basins.

The entire port site is planned to be rainbowed on by late 2017. Work on the construction of the quay walls can subsequently start in mid-2018. The first companies expected to become operational by 2019.
