BSBG wins role on The Island project in Dubai
June 12, 2019 – UAE-based architectural firm Brewer Smith Brewer Group (BSBG) has been selected for the role of lead consultant for one of Dubai’s iconic projects, The Island.
As part of its role, BSBG will provide consultancy, executive architecture, structural engineering and construction supervision for the project, which will be located on a 26-acre island off the coast of Umm Suqeim in Dubai.
The Island will feature more than 1,400 hotel rooms, suites and apartments, retail, food and beverage (F&B) and several key anchor entertainment destinations.
The project is claimed to highly technical project, both in terms of scale and design and is expected to have a significant impact on Dubai’s continued appeal for an international holiday destination.
It was initially announced by developer wasl Hospitality & Leisure in March 2017, when early concepts were presented to Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Since the announcement, the company claims to have worked in developing the vision created by Dutch architects UNStudio and has guided the project from the concept and schematic stage to design phases. Recently, marine and enabling works started at the site.
The Island will introduce Las Vegas hotel brands MGM, Bellagio and Aria to Dubai and the UAE for the first time. The brands are the three more key players in international hospitality industry being introduced in Emirates in the recent years and will join the likes of The Langham and Dorchester Collection.
Several of the intricate details about the project have been kept under wraps for now.
BSBG Partner Kevin Harper said: “The Island is highly complex, and hugely challenging from a design co-ordination perspective, however our teams working on the project are technically excellent and incredibly driven to produce the level of work a development of this stature calls for.
“We are honoured to be working alongside wasl, Mirage and MGM, as well as a select group of sub-consultants and specialists on delivering this iconic project for Dubai.”
