Carillion chosen for student housing project

April 14, 2017- UK-based construction services firm Carillion has been selected by the University of Manchester as the preferred bidder to design and build Phase one of its new Fallowfield Student Residences project.

Phase 1 of the project will include 1,122 cluster-flat study bedrooms arranged in eight accommodation blocks, an energy centre, student amenity hub and associated landscaping provision.

The cluster blocks are normally four-storey residential units in various configurations, with 10 bedrooms and a kitchen area on each floor, Carillion said in a statement.

Upon completion, the £75M project will enable the university to provide a range of accommodation, study and support services.

Richard Howson, Carillion’s CEO, said: “Being selected for this project reflects our reputation for delivering to high-standards of quality and Health and Safety and our ability to design and deliver sustainable solutions for our customers.

“We look forward to working with the University to deliver Phase one of the Fallowfield Student Residences project to support its objective of providing an excellent student experience.”

Prior to signing the contract, Carillion will develop final design and construction proposals. Construction work is expected to start in August 2017, with completion scheduled for summer 2019.
