CIC Holdings to deploy drones to keep jumbos at bay
Sep 05, 2016 – For the first time CIC Holdings PLC is planning to introduce special battery powered drones with cameras to protect agriculture fields from elephants.
Research Scientist, CIC Precision Agriculture Technologies Manju Gunawardane said that under this novel technology drones would be on surveillance at times when elephant movements are expected.
“When these elephants come near agricultural fields the drone would fly close to the elephant and sound a siren and then release coloured spray which will chase away the elephant.”
He said that according to their research the elephant would not come to the area for a long time thus saving the crop as well as acting as a protector in the human elephant conflict. (SS)
