Cowi to work on Swedish knowledge hub

April 26, 2017 – Akademiska Hus, the property developer of the Albano Campus premises in Stockholm, has selected Denmark-based Cowi to assist in developing a knowledge hub in Stockholm, Sweden.

Cowi will be responsible for the system management planning for the construction work, and the detailed planning for the foundations and basements of three of the four buildings.

The firm will be also in charge of the geo-technology in the planning of the buildings, streets and conduits.

Albano Campus is being designed to serve as a scientific hub for over 15,000 students and researchers.

As per the development plan, a total of 150,000 sq m of university and higher education premises will be built, including 50,000 sq m for student and researcher accommodation.

The project will create an educational and research environment to form a hub that connects KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University.

The buildings will be integrated into the surrounding park landscape, with green roofs and large green terraces.

Cowi project manager, Johan Strom, said: “It’s great to be involved in developing the Albano campus, transforming the area from the rundown industrial area it is today into a vibrant educational environment with many green spaces.”

BSK Arkitekter and Christensen & Co Arkitekter are serving as the architects for the university premises. The campus is expected to be ready for occupancy in 2020.
