DEWA receives lowest bid for 200MW solar plant

July 09, 2017 – Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has received the lowest international bid of $9.45 per kilowatt hour for a 200MW concentrated solar power (CSP) plant project.

The project marks the fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, and is expected to become operational by April 2021.

In October 2016, DEWA sought expressions of interest (EOI) from energy firms for the project and by month end received EOIs from 30 players.

Eligible bidders were issued request for proposals in January, with a deadline of May to submit tenders. At the time of writing, four international consortiums have submitted bids for the project.

DEWA MD and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said: “Our achievements support the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide 7% of Dubai’s total power output from clean energy by 2020, 25% by 2030, and 75% by 2050. This will transform Dubai into a global hub for clean energy and a green economy.”

The 13MW first phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park became operational in 2013, the 200MW second phase was operational in March 2017, while the 800MW third phase is expected to become operational by 2020, Al Tayer said.
