January 24, 2018 – Italian company Enel, through its renewable energy subsidiary Enel Green Power Mexico (EGPM), has begun construction on the 93MW Salitrillos wind farm in the north-eastern Mexican state of Tamaulipas.

Overall investment in the construction of the facility will be approximately $120m. Located in the municipality of Reynosa, the wind farm is expected to be commissioned in 2019.

Once fully operational, the facility will generate 400GWh per annum.

The site of Salitrillos will be based on the company’s ‘Sustainable Construction Site’ model, which incorporates rational use of resources such as water saving systems and recycling processes.

The Salitrillos wind farm, the company’s first plant in Tamaulipas, will be supported by a contract for the sale to Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (Comisión Federal de Electricidad, CFE) of both specified volumes of energy over a 15-year period and the related clean certificates over a 20-year period.

Enel recently won contracts for four wind farms for a total capacity of 593MW in Mexico.
The three plants – Amistad II and Amistad III with a total installed capacity of 100MW each and Amistad IV with an installed capacity of 149MW – will be built in Acuna in the northern state of Coahuila.

The 244MW Dolores facility will be built in China, a municipality in the north-eastern state of Nuevo Leon.

Enel Green Power head Antonio Cammisecra said: “The start of construction of Salitrillos wind farm broadens our leadership within the Mexican market as it allows us to enter into a new, strategic, wind resource-rich state.

“With the construction of this new power plant, assigned in one of our successful tender offers, we prove once again our commitment to deliver in a timely fashion on our tender results, fuelling the country’s sustainable development with our green energy.”

Enel Green Power is the renewable energies division of Enel Group.
