Mar 24, 2017 – HES International is set to develop a tank terminal for the storage and transshipment of petroleum products and biofuels at Maasvlakte 1, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The firm has signed a long-term contract with oil major BP and is now building the new terminal, which will have a 1.3M cb m capacity.

The HES Hartel Tank Terminal will be built on a 27ha site and will feature 52 tanks ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 cb m.

‘Clean petroleum products’, such as diesel, gasoil, and gasoline, will be stored at the terminal. It will be also possible to blend products, add additives and homogenize cargoes.

In addition, BP has plans for pipeline connections between its Rotterdam refinery and the new terminal.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority will also build a 1,100m quay wall to accommodate three large or five smaller sea-going vessels.

Jan Vogel, HES International CEO, said: “With the development of this state of the art terminal, HES International demonstrates that it can serve the long-term needs of its customers. At the same time, we are realizing our ambitious growth plans.

“Together with the expansions at our terminals, the new facility will strengthen our position as one of Europe’s most important companies in terms of the storage and transhipment of dry and liquid bulk products.”

The terminal and the nautical infrastructure are estimated to cost hundreds of millions of euros.

The project is expected to lead to the creation of several hundreds of jobs during the construction phase and nearly 100 jobs after it becomes operational.

Construction on the terminal is expected to start in 2018 and be completed by the end of 2019.
