JV selected for Netherlands motorway project
Jan 24, 2017 – Zuidplus, a joint venture of Fluor, Heijmans and Hochtief, has been preliminarily awarded the Zuidasdok project in the Netherlands.
Zuidasdok is a joint project by the City of Amsterdam, ProRail and the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management of the Netherlands (Rijkswaterstaat).
The design-build contract, worth about $1bn, includes the widening and partial underground installation of the A10 South motorway and expansion of the Amsterdam Zuid station.
Additionally, junctions De Nieuwe Meer and Amstel will be widened. The joint venture will be also responsible for the maintenance of the A10 South tunnels for seven years.
According to Fluor, the project will create accessibility and new public spaces to the Zuidas [pictured] district, enhancing the quality of life in the area.
Fluor president of infrastructure business Hans Dekker said: “This preliminary award is of great importance to Fluor as it supports our strategic plan and we will be executing the project with partners who also have a proven track record of delivering similar undertakings.
“We look forward to using our design build expertise to successfully deliver this important project with cost and schedule certainty.”
The final contract is expected to be awarded in mid-February when the project will be further defined. Construction work is anticipated to commence in mid-2019 and be completed in 2028.
