Laing O’Rourke, Gleeds selected for £350M Wales hospital project
Mar 28, 2017 – Laing O’Rourke and consultancy firm Gleeds have been appointed to develop the £350M Specialist and Critical Care Centre (SCCC) in Llanfrechfa, Wales.
The 55,000 sq m project, to be delivered for the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, will feature 470 beds, a 24-hour acute assessment unit and an emergency department.
Located on the former Llanfrechfa Grange Hospital site, the proposed hospital will offer complex specialist and critical care treatment for over 600,000 people in southeast Wales.
Laing O’Rourke head of UK construction, Liam Cummins, said: “We’re privileged to be working on such a prestigious project for Wales and we’ll be applying all of our expertise in this area such as innovative engineering, our design for manufacture and assembly approach and delivering to the highest possible quality.”
Simon Williams, Gleeds director in Wales, said: “Having worked with the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board since 2007 through the development of the business case process for Welsh Government approval, we are best placed to drive this project forward to deliver a much needed state-of-the-art specialist facility for the area.”
Enabling works are likely to start this August. The project is scheduled to be complete by spring 2021.
