McLaren to deliver £120m mixed-use scheme in Brighton, UK
November 30, 2018 – British mixed-use developer First Base and private equity real estate fund Patron Capital have selected McLaren Construction to deliver the £120m redevelopment of the former Amex House in Brighton, UK.
The company has been appointed as principal contractor for a mixed-use development known as Edward Street Quarter, which will deliver 170,000ft² of Grade A offices in addition to space for coffee shops and restaurants.
The project will also deliver 168 homes, consisting of a mix of private and affordable units.
McLaren has completed demolition of Amex House and is expected to commence construction in May 2019.
The project is expected to employ more than 1,000 people during construction and support nearly 2,000 jobs when completed.
The redevelopment scheme, designed by BuckleyGrayYeoman, has been inspired by Brighton’s street scene and will introduce a high-quality public realm with three new public spaces created by landscape designers Spacehub.
First Base and Patron Capital are jointly developing Edward Street Quarter and the joint venture secured planning consent in July 2018.
First Base project director Steve Eccles said: “We are pleased to appoint McLaren, which has a demonstrable track record in delivering complex mixed-use schemes.
“We look forward to working with them to deliver this exciting scheme, which responds to local demand for high-quality workspace and homes.”
McLaren Construction regional managing directors David Gavin and Jay Newman said: “We are delighted to be working with First Base and Patron Capital to deliver this impressive scheme in the centre of Brighton.
“This contract marks the start of our work on this exciting development, as well as continued growth for McLaren in the region. Our strong experience in building mixed-use developments will help to ensure its success.”
Earlier in November 2018, property investment and development company Quintain and McLaren announced the topping out of plot W06 at Wembley Park, which will create 150 new homes, 115,000ft² of office and 10,000ft² of retail space.
Located opposite the London Designer Outlet, Plot W06 consists of two buildings, including the first of four new Grade A commercial buildings to be developed as part of the masterplan at Wembley Park, and 150 new rental homes.
