McLaren to deliver new UK HQ for Dar Group

June 20, 2018 – British company McLaren Construction has been appointed by international consultant Dar Group as the lead contractor for the main construction works for the latter’s new, £100m UK headquarters in Holborn.

The 185,000ft² mixed-use development has been designed by Perkins & Will. The nine-storey building will replace the current 1980s office block, featuring retail units on the ground floor and a neighbouring residential block containing 13 apartments.

The development will accommodate several companies under the Dar Group, including Dar, Perkins + Will, Currie & Brown, Elementa, IPA Advisory, Penspen and Maffeis. Bringing together the group’s member companies is expected to facilitate collaboration and exchange of ideas.

The facade of 150 Holborn will be made up of glass reinforced concrete, which complements similar, concrete materials visible in the area.

The building will feature a central entrance lobby, which includes a street-facing café, space for exhibitions and reception, an atrium with feature staircase, as well as a roof pavilion with roof gardens.

McLaren Construction London regional managing director David Miller said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Dar Group for this prestigious project.

“This appointment celebrates the strategic growth for the McLaren London region and we are confident that our strong experience within the commercial sector will result in this project having a very successful outcome for all stakeholders.”

The project targets several sustainability measures, including BREEAM Outstanding, LEED Platinum and SKA Gold.

The design will link 150 Holborn to its surroundings, while providing a distinctive identity to the building, acting as a landmark for the growing ‘midtown’ neighbourhood.

Dar UK managing director Andrew Loudon said: “Our new HQ in Holborn is a demonstration of commitment to the UK and we are excited about work starting on site in a matter of months.

“We are also very pleased to announce the appointments of McLaren Construction and John F Hunt.

“We are looking forward to overseeing the project and contributing to this dynamic, exciting and changing area of London.”

John F Hunt will begin demolition of the current office block in August 2018. Construction will begin in December 2018 and is expected to be completed in 2020.
