August 11, 2018 – UK-based Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group, is building 126 one- and two-bedroom retirement apartments across six blocks in the heart of the regenerated harbour at Portishead, West of Bristol, for retirement property specialists PegasusLife.

Work on the Marina Gardens development commenced with site clearance and preparation works during the latter half of 2017.

The main build is progressing well and the company expects the scheme to be completed in 2019.

The development includes an inner courtyard, featuring a central lawn and raised sun terrace, communal facilities for residents, including a spa with gym and treatment rooms, a lounge, café/restaurant, hobby room, a laundry and a wellness area.

This is the latest in a number of projects carried out by Midas across the UK for PegasusLife.

Midas Construction executive director Derek Quinn said: “We are very pleased and proud to once again to be working with PegasusLife to deliver a scheme of real quality in a wonderful location.

“The project will complement and enhance the significant investment which has already taken place in the harbour area at Portishead.”

The Bell Phillips-designed Marina Gardens development reflects the maritime surroundings and regional architecture of the town.

The buildings, clad in lime-washed brick, are reminiscent of local quayside warehouses, but retain the feel of the terraced homes prevalent in Portishead, Bristol and Bath.

Midas had recently completed the redevelopment and modernisation of the nearby Weston-super-Mare’s Winter Gardens for Weston College Group, creating a Law and Professional Services Academy for the college and restoring the 1920s pavilion and ballroom, along with many original features, to their former glory.

In Bristol, Midas had also recently delivered the flagship £25m Print Hall project, creating 267-studio bedrooms in a high-quality student accommodation scheme, which has breathed new life into the old Bristol Post newspaper print site, off Temple Way and Old Market Street.
