Mortenson | Clark JV constructs £1.1bn sports and entertainment complex in US
August 05, 2019 – A joint venture (JV) of Clark Construction Group and Mortenson has completed construction on the $1.4bn (£1.1bn) sports and entertainment complex, named Chase Center, in San Francisco’s Mission Bay area in the US.
The 18,064-seat sports and entertainment arena is anchored by an 11-acre mixed-use, privately-financed complex that also includes two 11-storey office buildings.
Additionally, the arena will serve as home court to the Golden State Warriors, and as a hub for nearly 200 events annually.
Featuring an iconic glass-enclosed gatehouse, the arena comprises over 20 retail locations and 3.2 acres of publicly-accessible plazas and open space, as well as a 925-space, below-grade parking structure.
Mortenson | Clark Chase Center project director Jim McLamb said: “A project of this scale and complexity doesn’t happen without trust and collaboration – among our partners in the field and throughout every level of this team.
“We had an exceptional pool of talented and determined project partners, all rowing in the same direction and working toward the same goal. At the end of the day, that translated into a high-quality end-product delivered on time, and in the safest manner possible.”
The project design team includes architects MANICA, Kendall Heaton Associates, and Gensler, while Mortenson | Clark is the general contractor.
For the privately-financed project, Mortenson | Clark led a team of more than 260 firms, including engineers, sub-consultants, trade contractors, and vendors.
The Chase Center project comprised more than 2 million ft² of construction spread across five structures. It also includes 44 club suites, 32 courtside lounges, 60 theatre boxes, premium lounges, and concourse areas.
Mortenson | Clark senior superintendent in charge of field operations on the project Trevor DeLong said: “Chase Center is the result of the significant contributions of nearly 9,800 craftworkers – a large contingent from San Francisco – all coming together to deliver a world-class facility that San Francisco can be proud of.
“Mortenson | Clark and our partners worked together to build a culture on site that fostered productivity and collaboration, while maintaining a laser focus on safety, every day, without compromise. It was an extraordinary team effort.”
The centre is scheduled to be opened for the 2019-2020 NBA season scheduled to commence in September 2019.
