Plans approved for large area of Ebbsfleet Garden City in UK
June 25, 2019 – Ebbsfleet Development’s Planning Committee has approved the construction of two more villages within the new Ebbsfleet Garden City in north Kent, UK.
Set up by the UK government, Ebbsfleet Development aims to accelerate the delivery of up to 15,000 homes and create a 21st century garden city in north Kent.
The latest approval of masterplans and design codes for the villages of Alkerden and Ashmere entails construction of up to 4,600 homes across the two new villages in Eastern Quarry, adding to the 1,600 homes in Castle Hill where building work is currently underway.
Ebbsfleet said in a statement: “The plans set out how Whitecliffe will develop in the future, on street design, public realm and street planting as well as give clear guidance on how two new village centres will be shaped.”
Ebbsfleet Development chief planning officer Mark Pullin said: “These are two very important decisions which define how the biggest part of Ebbsfleet Garden City will be shaped over the years to come.”
Located around 20 miles to the South East of Central London, the 667-acre Ebbsfleet Garden City site is owned by Henley Camland, a joint venture between Henley Investments and place-making and infrastructure firm Camland.
Ebbsfleet Development board chairman Michael Cassidy said: “The process of giving planning permission for the “look and feel” of the main next phase of housing at Ebbsfleet Garden City marks an historic turning point in the ambitions for this flagship enterprise.
“It shows how intelligent use of planning powers and cooperation from landowners and developers can bring matters to a speedy conclusion and a quality outcome that befits a Garden City.”
The Alkerden village will comprise a new ‘market centre’ with commercial, retail and community facilities as well as approximately 1,500 new homes.
It will also be home to primary and secondary education campus as well as library, sports facilities. It will also host a mixed-use centre with shops and cafes, and gym.
