PORR wins €164m infrastructure contract in Poland
August 11, 2018 – Austrian construction company Porr, in a consortium with PORR Bau and UNIBEP, Bielsk Podlaski, has won a €163.6m contract to design and build the final section of the S61 expressway in the Voivodeship of Warmian-Masurian in Poland.
Construction of the 23km stretch from Szczuczyn to Ełk is expected to be completed in 29 months.
The project will be realised as a design-build tender. Initially, PORR will produce the requisite design documents and secure the necessary permits and approvals.
Later, the consortium will begin the construction works, which are to be completed by the third quarter of 2021.
In addition to the new construction of the expressway, selected local roads will be upgraded and the technical structures and environmental infrastructure will be erected.
PORR CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss said: “The PORR team in Poland has brought on board another prestigious project with this tender. This stretch is especially crucial given that it is part of the Via Baltica, the most important road link between the Baltic States and Western Europe.”
In May 2018, a consortium consisting of PORR and Denys was hired by GAZ-SYSTEM to build the high-pressure gas pipeline Tworóg-Tworzeń. This is the second project that PORR is building for the Polish gas transport operator.
The new pipeline is intended to improve the transport of natural gas in the Voivodeship of Opole and the Silesia region. The contract is worth around €68m.
The new gas pipeline will have a diameter of one metre and pressure of 8.4MPa. It will run alongside an existing pipeline across a length of 55.2km. Construction of the pipeline will take 26 months.
The Tworóg-Tworzeń pipeline is part of the North-South gas corridor from Świnoujście to Croatia.
The construction is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund as part of the operational programme ‘Infrastructure and Environment’.
Strauss said: “This new order represents the fourth tender acquired by PORR in the energy supply sector in Poland. We have already managed to prove our extensive expertise in this sector of infrastructure construction multiple times over on our home market.”
