Serneke wins £70m swimming hall construction contract in Sweden

July 01, 2019 – Sweden-based Serneke Construction has won a contract worth about SEK820m (£69.6m) from Lejonfastigheter, a real estate services firm, for the construction of a new swimming hall in Linköping, Sweden.

The new swimming hall will replace the original one constructed in 1965, which is located in the same area.

To be constructed at the southern shore of the Tinnerbäcksbadet aquatics centre, the new swimming hall will feature about 21,700m² and contain a large competition-sized swimming pool and room for a grandstand.

The project will also include the construction of a teaching pool, exercise pool, rehab pool and several areas for play, exercise and relaxation.

Serneke Construction said that the new facility’s unique location and architecture will set the tone for the city district being planned in Folkungavallen.

Construction on the new swimming hall is planned to commence in summer 2019 and the facility is scheduled for completion in summer 2022.

Serneke Construction regional manager Fredrik Elmgren said: “We are pleased to be the contractor selected to build the new swimming hall and contribute something so positive to the residents of Linköping. This is an exciting project that we are taking on with great commitment.”

Lejonfastigheter project manager Christian Dahlén said: “It’s very satisfying that the work of building Linköping’s new swimming hall will now be realized. Lejonfastigheter is looking forward to a successful collaboration with Serneke.”

In June 2019, Serneke Construction has been awarded a contract valued at about SEK150m (£12.7m) by Niam for the construction of 54 homes in Näsby Slottspark in Täby, outside Stockholm.

The 54 housing units, to be located in the Norra Parken area, will be built in the form of both multi-family dwellings and semi-detached houses. Construction on the housing project will commence immediately, with the first stage being completed during 2020.

Established in 2002, Serneke operates as construction, civil engineering, project development and property management firm. The group has income of nearly SEK6.5bn (£552.m) and nearly 1,200 employees.
