Siemens breaks ground on $300m manufacturing facility expansion
July 06, 2017 – Siemens has broken ground on a $300m expansion of Siemens Healthineers manufacturing and R&D facility for laboratory diagnostics in Walpole, Massachusetts.
The project is anticipated to result in the creation of up to 700 new jobs over the next decade.
Siemens member of the managing board and Siemens Healthcare supervisory board chairman said: “Today, we provide more than 10 billion laboratory diagnostics tests each year. Our mission is to extend this reach even further and Walpole will play a major role in this effort.
“That’s why we’re investing 300 million dollars here – one of the largest single capital investments of Siemens Healthcare in the U.S. ever. We look forward to innovations from here – innovations that will benefit our customers, that will benefit Siemens and, most of all, that will benefit patients.”
Siemens Healthineers is the separately managed healthcare arm of Siemens, and employs around 46,000 staff across the globe. The unit reported €13.5bn in revenue and over €2.3bn in profit in fiscal 2016. The facility in Walpole works with over 36,000 US suppliers.
Siemens Healthineers president for laboratory diagnostics Franz Walt said: “With this investment, we will expand our capabilities to deliver solutions such as our new Atellica portfolio of products to give lab professionals control and simplicity so they can spend less time on operations and more time driving better outcomes.”
