SLT to uplift Homagama Techno City digital infrastructure
Nov 15, 2016 – A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Megalopolis Development and Sri Lanka Telecom to uplift digital infrastructure facilities of the techno city being constructed in Homagama according to the Western Provincial Megalopolis Development Plan.
This country will become the strategic commercial hub in the Indian oceanic region with the construction of the financial city and Homagama techno city centering the city of Colombo, the main commercial city in this country.
Similarly,development of a robust islandwide information and telecommunication infrastructure is an essential factor to drag in the attention of local and foreign investors. No doubt that this will definitely give a direct contribution to the economic development of the country while enhancing the living standards of people.
Accordingly, construction work of the techno city, included in the Western Region Megalopolis Development Plan, was commenced recently at Pitipana, Homagama. The constructions of the first phase has five technological centres including the National Science Center, the Satellite Centre and the Technology Universities have already been commenced, and the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development has taken measures to work collaboratively with Sri Lanka Telecom, the leading digital infrastructure provider in this country.
Projects are being implemented in the technological region by the Moratuwa University, the Sri Jayawardhanapura University, the Colombo University and the Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies.
Sri Lanka Telecom will provide all digital infrastructure facilities required for universities, Science Research Institutes,Satellite Centre and residential zones established within this techno city.
