Stoford picked for £200M Typhoo Wharf redevelopment

Mar 16, 2017 – Developer Stoford has been selected as the development partner by the Gooch Estate for a £200M redevelopment project in Birmingham [pictured].

The redevelopment will cover Typhoo Wharf, the former Typhoo Tea building, and the adjoining canal basin where tea used to be brought to Birmingham from London.

The 92,900 sq m project will include office space, small and medium-sized business incubator space, bars and restaurants, artist studios and homes.

Stoford director, Jon Andrews, said:  “This is a very ambitious scheme that promises to set the tone for transformation of the Digbeth area of the city and we are delighted to have been selected to play a central role in delivering this important development programme.

“This strategic development opportunity is within short walking distance of Birmingham’s proposed Curzon Street HS2 railway station and adjacent to the Metro tram line extension to High Street, Deritend, which is due to open in 2023.”

Work is expected to commence on site in mid-2018, following a planning application that is expected to be prepared in mid-2017.
