Strabag unit bags €309m tunnelling contract for sewerage system in Singapore


September 19, 2017 – Züblin, a subsidiary of Austrian construction group Strabag, has won a contract worth €309m to build 11.9km of tunnels for the sewerage system in Singapore.

The contract, which was awarded by the Singapore’s national water agency PUB, is a part of the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System (DTSS) Phase 2 project.

As per terms of the contract, Züblin will deploy four tunnel boring machines to make three-and-a-half to six-metre wide tunnels.

Construction work is expected to commence in March next year while the completion is scheduled in September 2023.

First phase of DTSS project was completed in 2008, where Züblin successfully constructed one section of the project.

After completion of the second phase in 2025, Singapore will have an additional conveyance system which is made up of 60km of link sewers and 40km of deep tunnels.

With about 14,000 employees, Züblin is engaged in all construction-related tasks, which includes civil engineering, bridge building and tunnelling to complex turnkey construction among others.
