TechnipFMC consortium wins contract for Rovuma LNG Project in Mozambique
October 10, 2019 – A consortium comprising TechnipFMC, JGC, and Fluor has secured an EPC contract from Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV) for the Rovuma LNG production complex project in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.
A joint venture of Eni, ExxonMobil and CNPC, MRV has a 70% stake in the exploration and production concession of Area 4, which is estimated to hold gas reserves of 85 trillion cubic feet (tcf) out of which the Rovuma LNG project aims to develop and commercialise 21.7tcf.
Galp, Kogas and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) each own 10% interest in the block.
The Rovuma LNG Project aims to produce, liquefy and market natural gas from three reservoirs of the Mamba complex located in the Area 4 block in the Offshore Rovuma Basin.
TechnipFMC onshore/offshore president Nello Uccelletti said: “This award confirms the market recognition of TechnipFMC’s expertise and track record in gas monetization and, in particular, in the LNG industry. It also reinforces the Company’s positioning in the energy transition journey.
“TechnipFMC is a strong player in Mozambique, a strategic country for the Company, and already present through key LNG and Subsea on-going projects. We are proud to serve our customer for the Rovuma project and will continue to accompany the industrial growth of the country, leveraging its resources and human capital.”
The project involves the construction of two natural gas liquefaction trains, with total capacity of 15.2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), as well as associated onshore facilities.
Fluor energy and chemicals business group president Mark Fields said: “We worked closely to develop the project model that builds upon each party’s strengths and capabilities to partner with MRV to advance this landmark project in a safe, secure and sustainable manner creating new opportunities for Mozambique and its citizens.”
Eni Rovuma Basin will lead the construction and operation of upstream facilities on behalf of MRV whereas ExxonMobil Moçambique Limitada will lead construction and operation of natural gas liquefaction and related facilities.
