YIT plans new apartments, centralised parking facility in Hakunila, Finland
August 15, 2019 – Finnish construction company YIT, rental apartments provider SATO, M2-Kodit and As Oy Hiirakkokuja 6 have signed a co-operation contract for designing new apartments and a centralised parking facility for the Hiirakkokuja neighbourhood in the Hakunila district in Finland.
The City of Vantaa had released Hakunila’s urban planning framework in 2017 for supplementary planning and development of the downtown area of Hakunila.
In 2017, YIT and SATO launched a collaboration to review the development potential of the Hakunila district.
The new project is an extension of the supplementary plan for the Raudikkokuja block north of Hiirakkokuja.
The Raudikkokuja project will enable the construction of 300-360 new apartments and the Hiirakkokuja project 260-320 apartments.
According to YIT, the sports park, Sipoonkorpi Natural Park and Håkansböle manor grounds near Hakunila offer opportunities for recreation.
Furthermore, Hakunila is easily accessible, and the planned light rail towards Tikkurila will improve the public transport connections.
SATO, M2-Kodit and As Oy Hiirakkokuja own houses in the planned Hiirakkokuja area. The co-operation agreement signed between YIT and the landowners allows the development of the area as one entity, making it possible to design solutions that benefit all the parties involved.
YIT, SATO and M2-Kodit aim to build new apartments with varied types of occupation, with plans for non-subsidised ownership housing, non-subsidised and subsidised ownership rental housing and cooperative shareholding apartments.
Construction on the first new apartments included in Hakunila’s supplementary plans is expected to begin in 2020-2021.
SATO, which has been involved in the construction of Hakunila since the 1970s, owns several rental apartments in the area. Renovations of the SATO rental apartments began a few years ago and supplementary planning will bring new housing to the area.
M2-Kodit is owned by the Y-säätiö group, which focuses on reasonably-priced affordable state subsidised (ARA) dwellings.
YIT urban development in charge Juha Kostiainen said: “Hakunila has a lot of potential, and through supplementary planning this development can be accelerated. With a joint project we can further develop our concept of area development.”
YIT develops and builds apartments and living services, business premises and entire areas and is also involved in demanding infrastructure construction and paving.
The company has operations in Finland, Scandinavia, Russia, the Baltic States, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland.
