Eiffage consortium wins contract to build RTBF headquarters in Belgium
August 28, 2020 – Eiffage via its subsidiary, in a consortium with BESIX and In Advance, has secured a contract to build the new headquarters of RTBF, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation public service broadcaster, in Brussels, Belgium.
Eiffage has participated in the contract through Valens, the Belgian subsidiary of Eiffage Construction.
The contract is valued at around €100m, of which Eiffage’s share is 40%.
RTBF wanted a new building to meet its changing operational needs, work patterns and ensure improved energy performance, said Eiffage.
Located in Schaerbeek, north-east of Brussels, the 40,000m2, dubbed Media Square, will become the new base for RTBF’s employees.
Designed by MDW Architectures and V+, the building will feature slightly curved facades offering the facility a singular identity.
Media Square will feature a patio, indoor gardens and terraces. Furthermore, the focus will be made on the expanses of glazing.
This project forms part of a plan to refurbish a 20-hectare site, where the current headquarters of RTBF is located.
Upon completion, Media Square will become the centre-piece in the Mediapark.brusells district.
Work on the project is in progress and is set to be completed in 2024.
Earlier this month, Eiffage Construction has announced the completion of the first stage of construction of the RATP Habitat headquarters, a joint wood/concrete site.
The new RATP Habitat headquarters, which will be situated in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, is set to complete in the first quarter of 2021.
Construction of the new building will take place following the demolition of the old building.
Eiffage said that if the superstructure is constructed in new, the infrastructure has, on its side, been preserved. Therefore, the work will include the reinforcement of the infrastructure on one level, to ensure the foundations of the new building.
