Feb 23, 2017 – US Wind has selected JDR Cable Systems to supply subsea power cables to its proposed 750MW wind project off the coast of Maryland, US.

Under the contract, JDR will be responsible for the project management, engineering and manufacture of 196km of inter-array cable, 180km of export cable and cable accessories.

JDR will also offer cable installation and testing. Cable manufacture is expected to commence in 2018 with delivery and installation expected in 2019 and 2020. Engineering work is set to commence later this year. US Wind believes that this is the start of bringing 5,000 manufacturing jobs to Maryland and generating over $16bn in net economic output over the life of its 750MW Maryland project.

US Wind president Riccardo Toto said: “JDR Cables is a world-class leader in the industry and just one of many future examples of US Wind’s commitment to bring the world’s best companies to Maryland.

“We’re interested in putting together a whole new offshore wind industry right here, in Maryland, and bringing JDR here is a big piece of that puzzle.”

JDR Cable Systems CEO David Currie said: “We are extremely proud to be selected by US Wind for the full cable package.

“This partnership will strengthen Maryland and Baltimore as a regional business hub and support additional job creation. We are thrilled to be part of this exciting Maryland project.”
