YIT wins contract to build apartment buildings in Helsinki
June 07, 2021 – Finnish construction company YIT has signed contract agreements with the City of Helsinki for the construction of Hitas, right-of-occupancy, rental apartments and a parking garage in Sompasaari, Helsinki.
The main contract package, worth €58m, covers three housing companies, for which a total of 238 apartments will be constructed.
It also includes construction of a single-level parking garage under the yard deck.
Construction work on the project is scheduled to commence this month, with completion expected in early 2024.
In a separate development, the construction company has announced the opening of disc golf course in Lentola, a residential area under construction in Aviapolis, Vantaa.
Lentola’s 9 hole disc golf course, located at the corner of Rälssitie and Äyritie, on the plot of the future Atomi comprehensive school, will be open for at least a year.
Depending on the construction schedule of the school, the golf course will be open for a few years.
Upon completion in 2035, Lentola will comprise 3,000 apartments, five parking garages, a park, two daycare centres and a comprehensive school.
So far, YIT has constructed about six apartments in the area, with four additional apartment buildings under construction.
YIT vice president Heikki K. Hannukkala said: “Lentola is a diverse residential area that attracts a wide range of age groups, and we want to participate in the development of the community in the area. The disc golf course is one example of this. We will distribute discs to the housing companies in the area to make playing as easy as possible and to encourage people to exercise.”
